PROJECT INFO:

The unique objective of this project was to convert an existing barn structure into a guest home allowing for multi-generational living for a family in West Linn, OR. The converted barn and shop had little area in the existing attic for a guest suite, so a new level was constructed above the existing garages complete with a dramatic butterfly roof supported by exposed glulam beams. The living room and covered deck open up to regional views to the northeast while an exercise room opens up to an existing pool terrace to the west. Utilizing the existing ground level, the barn structure was completely modernized and insulated for comfortable living above with a wood stair leading up to the guest quarters. Exterior cladding consists of stained horizontal cedar shiplap, hard troweled plaster, and metal accents.
