PROJECT DETAILS:
Set along the rolling ridgelines of Newberg, Chehalem Ridge is conceived as a contemporary mountain lodge rooted deeply in place, material, and family. Designed as a gathering home for multiple generations, the residence balances expansive communal spaces with quieter moments of retreat, creating a framework for connection across seasons and time. Large expanses of glass open the home to the forested site and regional valley views beyond, while an exposed heavy timber structure establishes warmth, permanence, and rhythm throughout the architecture.
Central to the project is the use of fir trees harvested directly from the site, thoughtfully milled and fabricated into the home’s primary structural posts and beams. The result is a house intrinsically tied to its landscape with a structure shaped not only by the land, but literally built from it.
