PROJECT DETAILS

The existing home sits high above Portland in the West Hills just 5 minutes from downtown on a winding narrow road leading to an opening in the forest with views to the east and downtown.  The site is bordered by tall firs and few neighbors. This was a complete down-to-the studs transformation and addition.  The owners loved the site, but not anything about the house and wanted to transform the 80’s style tract home into a modern urban home.  We kept the original footprint and location of the main living areas, but everything else was redesigned, especially the exterior and roof lines. Vertical tongue and groove cedar was used on the front and side elevations – with multiple rooflines and window configurations, vertical cedar was chosen to simplify the elevations while providing a warm/rich feel.
