PROJECT DETAILS:

An active couple with two small children wanted more out of their 2,000 SF, three-bedroom home located in the West Hills of Portland. The existing entry was cramped and the living areas were dark. The laundry room was underutilized and the dining room didn’t feel like it was part of the living space. Radiators provided heating in the living and entry areas only, leaving the rest of the home cold. The design goals were to remodel the home within the existing footprint, while also keeping the existing fir and maple trees. A more dynamic and inviting entry was established with a concrete art wall and built-in shelving. A new kitchen and dining room aimed to open more to the forest views of the exterior. The dining room now joins with the east side of the living room making the space feel more cohesive. Clerestory windows were added to bring more light into the space. In the living room, a new window wall and sliding doors help to develop a strong connection to the outdoors. The bathrooms and bedrooms were all updated with new finishes and fixtures. The laundry room now functions as an exercise and wine room.
